OVERVIEW
Leaving the well worn paths and the familiar images of ancient and medieval mosaics, AHA's exciting new venture delves into a form of contemporary expression using natural and recycled materials...

AHA has teamed up with the Kefalonia Mosaic Art School for an 12 day, fully inclusive, ceramic and mosaic holiday.
Kefalonia Mosaic Art School is run by Micheline Divaris-Lambert (www.ionianarts.eu) who's villa, complete with a spacious, well equipped ceramic and mosaic studio is perfectly situated in Divarata, in the centre of Kefalonia.

The holiday starts with an inspirational boat trip around the nearby island of Ithaca. We then spend time in the studio, interspersed with several trips to see more of the island.

This is a fully inclusive holiday. You only need to book your flights, we cover everything else for you.
If you are interested in booking this holiday please contact Linda. A deposit of £200 will be required at the time to secure your place.
All participants will be asked to book their own flights (see below) and travel insurance.
The earlier the flight booking the cheaper the price.

We welcome participants from all over the world, If coming from another destination please contact Linda before booking.
On arrival in Kefalonia, you will be met at the airport by Linda and Micheline and taken to your accommodation.

Micheline Divaris-Lambert set up her studio approximately seven years ago and has run many successful courses there over that period. The studio is very spacious, opening out to the back garden, where we can also work in the sun or the shade.

We start with an inspirational boat trip around the island of Ithaca, home of Ulysses, with its fascinating geological formations surrounded by the deep blue/turquoise Ionian sea. Back in the studio we will use delicate porcelain clay to help create our textural vision, and learn how to use glazes to represent both the natural and vivid colours from our trip. Many materials are available for you to use such as; glass, marble, stone and ceramic tiles. However, you will also have the opportunity to beachcomb for your own found materials.

Micheline and Linda will teach you how to use porcelain, including the glazing and firing procedure, as well as how to use the appropriate tools for the chosen materials including; hammer and hardie, and various types of tile cutters - which are all provided.
ACCOMMODATION
Villa Myrtos is in a peaceful and private location in central Kefalonia, with views across the surrounding mountains and valleys out to the sea. Spacious and comfortably furnished, there is a rear balcony overlooking the terraced garden and swimming pool.
The accommodation in the villa is split into two apartments both easily accessible. The top street level apartment has one double room with private bathroom and two twin rooms with shared bathroom including bath. The garden level apartment below (steps from street level) has one double and one twin bedroom, with shared bathroom including shower. All bedrooms have air conditioning, and there is free wifi throughout.

PROGRAMME
DAILY SCHEDULE
11 Oct Arrive at 13.15. Transport to Divarata. Welcome meal in the evening in the picturesque fishing village of Aghia Effimia.

12 Oct Inspirational Boat trip around Ithaca (weather permitting!) gathering reference photos/sketches. Later followed by a group discussion, evaluating our findings from the boat trip and planning our individual artworks.

13 Oct Drawing out our final designs onto the substrate. Then, an introduction to the use of porcelain clay, to create our sculptural ceramic pieces.

14 Oct Finish making our porcelain pieces and allow them to dry. In the afternoon we will take a trip to the infamous white pebble Myrtos Beach nearby. Here the vivid turquoise water will still be warm from the summer's sun, perfect for a paddle or a swim.

15 Oct A full day in the studio cutting mosaics.

16 Oct While our porcelain is still cooking, we will drive to the capital, Argostoli for a morning visit. Here you can go shopping, visit the local archaeological or folklore museums, or take a stroll along the stone-mosaic promenade in the harbour. In the afternoon, back at the studio, we will continue to cut out the mosaic pieces.

17 Oct A full day in the studio where we will be placing and fixing our mosaic pieces.

18 Oct Continue with mosaic creations in the morning. Afternoon visit to the Roman mosaic in Skala, with time for a swim and relax on Skala's long, sandy beach.

19 Oct A full day mosaicing in the studio.

20 Oct Half of the day will be spent in the studio, the other half visiting the colourful harbour of Assos, with it's iconic view of the isthmus.

21 Oct A full day working to complete our mosaics.

22 Oct Hopefully, with our mosaics finished, we will have time to visit the affluent yachting harbour of Fiskardo. In the evening we will have our farewell meal and reflect on our experience.

23 Oct Transport to airport. Flight departs 14.10
EXCURSIONS
We have several excursions planned. Our initial boat trip to Ithaca will inspire our creative response when working back at the studio with the porcelain. Then, our trips that follow will be to give us a break from our studio time, and explore Kefalonia's dramatic scenery and it's culture.

Throughout the making of our contemporary mosaics, individual tuition will be given, alongside demonstrations of various creative techniques.
